First Company Medilife Bağcılar Hospital

  • Medilife Bağcılar Hospital is an existing hospital consisting of nine-story with a bed capacity of 124 on an area of approximately 9000 m²
  • The hospital has 16 main specialist departments, including 24-hour emergency service, aesthetics, and hair transplantation departments.
  • The hospital began operating since 2014 and is being constantly improving in terms of financial income and medical professional development.
  • The medical staff of the hospital consists of 60 medical doctors and more than 100 nurses, as well as other specialties. In other words, the total number of health personnel in the hospital is 450.
  • We will add and develop seven new specialist departments to the hospital such as oncology and cardiac surgery and will develop the gastrology department.
  • The hospital has been evaluated by the Turkish Standards Institute for the year 2018 at a rate of 98% and has also received the ISO 9000 international quality certificate and the Turkish Standards Institute certificate with an excellent rating.
  • The hospital was selected as one of the only 38 hospitals in Istanbul, which are suitable for medical tourism, health, and medical treatment.
  • The hospital is located in the most densely populated area of the city Istanbul and according to our integrated strategy plan, has a highly developable property.
  • The hospital was acquired on 1st April 2020, at the beginning of the Corona crisis in Turkey and in the most difficult professional conditions. The new administration was afraid of this stage and the circumstance of Corona might be reflected negatively in a loss to the company.
  • Although the hospital has the highest reception rate for ordinary patients, decision was made first not to accept patients diagnosed with corona virus as precaution to control infection on other patients along with the medical and administrative staff.
  • But the new administration has taken new measures to increase income at a difficult time, although many nearby hospitals in Istanbul have not been able to withstand this crisis.
  • On the contrary, we took advantage of the opportunity and conducted a study of the topic in the company and presented it and discussed it with the competent doctors to evaluate the condition of the hospital to be ready to receive corona patients.
  • A letter was sent to the Ministry of Health informing them that our hospital is ready to receive patients with the beginning of the spread of Corona in Turkey and was approved by the health authorities after all the medical precautions prepared by the hospital were confirmed.
  • We implemented all required measures to ensure corona patients are separated from other patients. Emergency department was divided completely to handle corona patients separately from remaining patients. In addition, The ICU rooms were separated as well. In additional to general practitioners handling Corona cases, the hospital has augmented specialized doctors to treat Corona of heart diseases, kidney, liver, and lung diseases.
  • The rest of the doctors in the hospital are committed to the work as before in the clinics and regularly with a two-day work rate and distribution throughout the week and we have sent messages to patients stating that the doctors are present on schedule and accordingly the appointments are booked remotely.
  • At the hospital entrances, staff were coordinating to allow no more than three patients entrance at the same time according to their scheduled appointments.
  • Guidelines have been drawn for indication, for example, red lines showing the path of corona patients and green for other patients. This helped guide patients to the correct route without even asking for help.
  • We were able to operate in the hospital and never stopped during the Corona crisis where there was an intensive care occupancy of nearly 95%.
  • As for the birth cases, the hospital was sending a sterilized ambulance vehicle for transporting pregnant woman from her place to the hospital. Then return her and the baby by ambulance back to her residency place and giving them all necessary vaccines at home.
  • We were following up with elderly patients who has difficult cases as the hospital will send the required advanced appliances with competent doctor to patient's place at the same cost and without increasing the price as if he had attended the hospital.
  • If someone was suspected of contracting THE CORONA virus, we would send the doctor by ambulance to the patient's place for an examination for him/her and the whole family.
  • We were able to assign two ambulances to transport Corona patients and separate them from other vehicles to transport other patients.
  • At the beginning of April, as Corona cases developed in Turkey, the warehouse was filled with enough medicines and medical supplies to cover hospital needs.
  • Six additional artificial respirators were purchased and used during the Corona period.
  • In some cases of patients with critical health status, specialized doctors are contacted abroad, the necessary medical reports are provided, the examinations are provided, the patient's health condition is studied, and then a plan for his treatment is made on the advice of doctors, and then the medical staff begins to apply treatment as for the patient to start in recovery.
  • Of all the cases received by the hospital for Corona patients, only one death has been recorded. It was for elderly identified with chronic diseases such as heart disease, epilepsy, lung disease, hypertension, and diabetes. Our hospital was the only hospital where the mortality rate was almost zero among Turkish hospitals.
  • The Turkish media highlighted the hospital, which led us to Ankara, and we have been thanked and appreciated by the Turkish government and the Turkish health authorities as a result of the hospital's great role and its great therapeutic capacity and the services provided by the administration as well as the treatment of the medical staff distinguished during the epidemic phase in Turkey, and also for the large number of recoveries from the epidemic after receiving medical care and follow-up of their medical condition in the hospital.
  • In this sense, we have been encouraged to accelerate the implementation of the next phase of our strategic plans, which is to expand the hospital to more than 200 beds and facilitate the opening of new disciplines.
  • As they say, “No Crisis Should Go to Waste.” The Corona stage was great learning for us to benefit our patients and serve them and to reflect on our MATIHCO investors through the first project, as any economy that did not lose in the time of Corona is a winning economy by all standards.
  • The name of the company along with the name of the hospital has been greatly recognized. The new management, which started work shortly was able to make a great leap with positive effect on the medical state in Turkey in such difficult conditions and strong competition. The hospital has proven its high merit and medical ability, having received many cases infected with Corona virus, although many hospitals were unable to withstand this crisis.
